Wednesday, 17 November 2021 – Several Palestinian civil society organizations released a statement about the visit of Mrs. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, to Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory concerning the ambassador’s decision not to meet with representatives of the six Palestinian organizations that were designated “terrorist” organizations by the Israeli Defense Minister in October.
Although Al Mezan did not sign the final version of the statement, due to position on choice of wording, the Center’s name was mistakenly added. While wishing to clarify that Al Mezan is not party to the statement, the Center also reiterates its opposition to the Ambassador’s meeting with Palestinian civil society should the meeting exclude representatives of the six aforementioned Palestinian organizations.
Further, Al Mezan calls on Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield to consider pressuring Israel into ceasing its campaign against the six civil society organizations. Israel’s conduct constitutes a serious violation of international law and threatens to silence Palestinian civil society as a whole.
