Al Mezan Center for Human Rights (Al Mezan) expresses its full solidarity with Al-Haq staff and condemns the escalating campaign against Palestinian human rights organizations. The ongoing campaign against Al-Haq, which has relied on intimidation and dubious accusations, took a dramatic turn when Al-Haq’s general director and representative in Europe both received anonymous threats, including warnings that their lives are in danger.
The recent escalation in the campaign against Al-Haq follows systematic attacks against human rights organizations that document and report Israeli violations against civilians in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) and strive to bring perpetrators to justice. The campaign uses means and methods designed to smear the reputation of human rights organizations and their staff and attempts to intimidate and discourage them from pursuing the prosecution of persons who have committed or have ordered the perpetration of international crimes.
Al Mezan expresses its full solidarity with Al-Haq and gravely condemns the smear and intimidation campaign. Al Mezan is confident that these attacks will not weaken the resolve of Palestinian human rights organizations in their pursuit of justice and human rights. Al Mezan affirms that this campaign will only encourage the organizations to do more to promote justice, achieve redress for all victims, and hold perpetrators of human rights violations and international crimes to account.
