Over the Past Two Days: IOF Kills Eight Persons, Including Child; Injures 20, Including Six Children; Attacks 23 Houses; and Arrests Six Fishermen

21 June 2012

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have continued their aggression against the Gaza Strip.
Since the early morning hours of Tuesday 19 June and the evening hours of Wednesday 20 June 2012, the IOF continued its aerial and maritime attacks against Palestinian civilians, houses, and fishermen.
The most recent Israeli attack was against a family walking in their field, which resulted in the death of a child and four people injured.
The IOF also attacked two military training sites and arrested a number of fishermen.
According to field investigations conducted by the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, at approximately 3:00 pm on Wednesday 20 June 2012, an Israeli aircraft fired a missile targeting family members relaxing in an agricultural field they own near the University College of Applied Science in the Tal Al Hawa neighborhood of southwestern Gaza City.
Ma’moun Mohammed Zuhdi Ad-Din, 13, was killed, while his father Mohammed Zuhdi Ad-Din, 60, sustained moderate injuries in the head and right hand.
Three children who were in an adjacent field were also injured in the attack.
Al Mezan has identified them as: Islam Younis Keshko, 4; Afnan Salah-Ad-Din Saleh, 8; and Mariam Salah Ad-Din Saleh, 16.
At approximately 6:20 pm on the same day, Israeli aircraft fired a missile at a military training site of the Palestinian resistance factions, located in Wadi Gaza north of An-Nuseirat refugee camp.
The site sustained partial damages as a result.
  No casualties were reported.
At approximately 6:45 pm on the same day, an Israeli aircraft fired a missile at a military training site belonging to one of the Palestinian resistance factions, located on the site of the former Civil Administration building east of Jabaliya refugee camp in North Gaza district.
Five family members were injured as a result.
Al Mezan has identified them as:   ·         The father, Fawzi Kamel Mohammed Washah, 52; ·         His wife Naima Ibrahim Mohammed Washah, 52; ·         Their child Mujahid, 6; ·         Mohammed Anwar Washah, 10; and ·         Ibrahim Anwar Washah, 5.
Medical sources at Kamal Adwan Hospital described their injuries as light.
The building was severely damaged as a result.
Four adjacent houses were partially damaged.
At approximately 9:00 pm on the same day, Israeli naval vessels patrolling the Gaza sea opened fire on Palestinian fishing boats off the coast west of the As-Sudaniya area in North Gaza district.
The IOF ships then surrounded two fishing boats and forced six fishermen to take off their clothes and swim towards them, after which they were arrested.
Al Mezan has identified the fishermen as:   ·         Hatem Saleh Abu Warda, 39; ·         His brother Fadel, 30; ·         Mohammed Mattar Khella, 48; ·         Ne’man Ibrahim As-Siksik, 19; ·         Hadi Subhi Mohammed Sa’adallah, 22; and ·         Mahmoud Mohammed Abu Warda, 23.
All six are residents of Jabaliya.
The firing frightened other fishermen in the area and they sailed to land immediately.
The Al Mezan Center for Human Rights strongly condemns Israel’s almost daily attacks and its escalation of violence against Palestinian civilians and their property in the border areas, at sea, and in what are known as the “Access-Restricted Areas.
”  Al Mezan warns of the grave impacts of the ongoing Israeli attacks and escalation, particularly given Israeli threats to commit further crimes and abuses against Palestinians in Gaza.
Therefore, Al Mezan calls on the international community, particularly the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention, to intervene to end these Israeli abuses and to ensure respect for international humanitarian law and international human rights law in the occupied Palestinian territory, the Gaza Strip in particular.
It also calls on the international community to uphold its obligations to end the Israeli aggression and to bring to justice those who are responsible for gross violations of international humanitarian law.
