30am on Friday, 23 March 2007, a group of masked armed men broke into the Cultural Society for the Protection of Heritage in Beit Lahia and caused damage to the building and part of the equipment and appliances inside it.
Al Mezan's fieldworkers reported that five unidentified armed men destroyed the gate of the organization's building and forced its guard, 18-year-old Tariq Ad Da'our, to freeze at gun point.
They then entered the building and destroyed all the doors inside it and musical instruments and a camera.
Those belong to the debka (Palestinian traditional dance) band that was created and run by the organization.
They also damaged a number of books and posters on the organization's activities.
Before leaving the place, they told the guard that the organization had to stop its activities.
The organization's director told Al Mezan they were not considering termination of any of their activities, which aim at reviving the Palestinian heritage and folklore.
This was the second attack of its kind in north Gaza district.
An armed group attacked the building of the Dar Ash-Shabab for Culture and Arts earlier on 20 February 2007.
Al Mezan Center condemns these attacks against cultural organizations and private shops.
It calls on the Palestinian Ministry of Interior to undertake its obligations in providing protection for civilians and their property, to investigate these acts and to bring those who perpetrated them to justice.
