At approximately 11:00 am on Wednesday, 15 June 2016, security apparatus prevented an activity organized by the Independent Palestinian Figures Gathering in the Gaza Strip at Al Jundi Al Mojhoul Square in Gaza City. This activity was held to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the Palestinian political split between Fatah and Hamas movements. According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, the Gathering informed the director of the security apparatus office in Gaza about the activity, but no response was received.
The Gathering held the activity and they were surprised by people dressed in civilian clothes preventing the participants and public figures from gathering and prevented photographing. They detained Rami Iyas Helmi Aman, 34, for several hours before he was released.
