A number of journalists and representatives of NGOs and political parties assembled today at app.
10am on 2 April 2007 in the sit-in strike tent established by journalists in the square of the Unknown Soldier in central Gaza City.
Speeches were delivered to express solidarity with Alan Johnston and to call upon the PNA and the government to secure his release.
The participants in the protest marched to the Cabinet's headquarters and called the Palestinian PM to speak to them.
It was reported that the PM was out of office, he delivered a speech upon his return where he confirmed the government's concern and pointed out its shame for failing so far to secure Johnston's release.
Heated arguments were
reported between journalists and police officers but did not develop into clashes.
