For the sixth consecutive month the Israeli occupation forces continue their attacks on unarmed Palestinian civilians.
Yesterday afternoon, Friday 16/3/2001, the Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian civilians near al-Muntar Crossing in the east of the Gaza Strip.
This led to the death of Muhammad Juma Abu ‘Un, a 20 year-old resident of Shaikh Radwan in Gaza, killed as a result of two bullets fired to his chest.
The Israeli occupation forces prevented an ambulance from arriving in his aid.
Eye-witnesses testify that Israeli soldiers that were in an Israeli military jeep fired in the direction of Muhammad Abu ‘Un, then they advanced towards him and fired a number of gas bombs and bullets to try to prevent the youths and the ambulance from arriving in his aid.
They left the body for a long time bleeding and he lost a large amount of his blood.
Afterwards the ambulances transported him to Shifa Hospital in Gaza where but he arrived dead.
The Israeli occupation forces firing at Palestinian civilians near al-Muntar Crossing led to the injury of:
Yasri Ibrahim ar-Ras, 18 year-old from Shati Camp, injured with a bullet that went through his left eye and settled in his brain.
Ahmad Muin al-Baba, 15 year-old from al-Zaitun in Gaza, injured on his back by a bullet.
Ismail ‘Ud Qanita, 23 year-old from Shati Camp, injured with a bullet in the buttock.
Rami Ziyad Hilis, 15 year-old from ash-Shujaiya in Gaza, injured with a bullet in his stomach.
Fadi Majid ash-Shawa, 15 year-old for an-Nasr in Gaza, injured in his right thigh with a bullet.
Mustafa Hasan al-Kurdi, 17 year-old from Shati Camp, injured by a bullet on his right hand.
Jihad Marwan Salim, 16 years-old from Jabalia Camp, injured with a bullet on his right thigh.
Muhammad Nahid al-Madhun 14 year-old from az-Zaitun in Gaza, injured by a rubber-bullet in the head.
In the morning of today Anwar Sulaiman Abu Diya 21 years-old resident of the Bedouin Village in the north of Bait Lahia was injured in his left thigh with a bullet fired at him from the Israeli military position near the village.
Al Mezan Center considers this new escalation marked by the random firing against unarmed civilians extremely dangerous.
It demands the international community to intervene immediately to stop the Israeli attacks and prevent a new massacre which the occupation forces may perpetrate in the silence of the international community.
