In a critical escalation of the state of security in the Gaza Strip, family disputes in Gaza have resulted in 6 fatalities and 21 injuries, according to al Mezan’s documentations druing June 2013.
A 4-year-old child was fatally shot during a family dispute in As-Shate’ Camp, west of Gaza City.
The case of Mahdi’s family dispute which took place at approximately 11:30 am, on Monday, June 24th 2013 shows increased scale of violence.
The incident took place near to Al Ghoul Gas station in As-Shate’ Camp, west of Gaza City where dozens of people crowded at the station in order to get fuel.
At the same time, as it was reported by the Al-Mezan’s field workers that a number of armed men headed to Mahdi’s house near the public market where someone fired towards the house.
One of the rounds hit Mohammed Ziyad Mahdi, 20, a resident of As-Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, and who was on a visit to his uncle’s house, therefore immediately killing him.
Mohammed was shot in the shoulder and abdomen.
Anas Mohammed Tammoos, 4, a resident of Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip, was also killed when a bullet landed in his chest while he was with his mother on a visit to his grandmother’s parents in As-Shate’ Camp.
According to police sources, two of the perpetrators were arrested by the government police, and an investigation has been opened into the incident.
Al Mezan expresses its sincere sorrow over the loss of the victims.
In addition, it condemns the increasing levels of insecurity and the government’s failure to put an end to such feuds, which prompt people to take matter’s into their own hands in clear violation and disregard of the law.
Al Mezan, therefore, calls on the government to take all necessary measures to end the deteriorating security situation, enforce the rule of law by curbing the use of arms on Palestinian streets and guarantee stability and safety for residents in the Gaza Strip.
