Al Mezan Organizes Training Workshop on Human Rights, the Right to Create Associations and the Right to Peaceful Assembly”

On Tuesday 2 April 2013, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights in cooperation with Oxfam-UK organized a training workshop for six hours entitled “Human Rights and the Right to Create Associations and Peaceful Assembly”, held at Al Mezan’s office in Jabaliya refugee camp.
About 26 workers at local associations attended the workshop Mrs.
Shirin Ash-Shobaki, Al Mezan’s Training and Mass Communication Unit Coordinator, opened the workshop by welcoming the attendance.
She emphasized the importance of the workshop and its content in order to disseminate human rights value and concepts in the Palestinian society.
She also presented the schedule of the workshop and its aim.
Mr.
Hussein Hammad, Al Mezan’s branch director, talked about Al Mezan’s role in human rights protection and defense.
He cleared the role of Al Mezan’s units in helping victims of human rights violations.
Mrs.
Ash-Shobaki delivered the first session, an introduction to human rights and the International Bill of Human Rights.
Mrs.
Mervat An-Nahhal, Al Mezan’s senior lawyer, delivered the second session, the right to create associations under international criteria and the Palestinian law.
This workshop constitutes one component of the “Enhancing Freedom of Opinion and Expression and Movement in Gaza” project, implemented by Al Mezan with support from Oxfam-UK and European Union.
