Sunday 14 July 2002, Israeli warplanes bombarded a home in al-Rabwat al-Ghrbia area, west of Khan Yunis.
Eyewitnesses said two missiles struck the house completely destroying it and the one next to it.
Al Mezan fieldworkers confirmed that the targeted house was owned by Yusif Abdul Rahman Abdul Wahab, whose son Ahmad was killed in January in a military operation at the Gani Tal settlement near Khan Yunis.
Medical sources said that six civilians were wounded, including Ahmad’s mother and his sister-in-law.
A two-year-old baby was also wounded, they added.
It may worth noting that in addition to the destruction of the two houses, five other houses were badly hurt in the area.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights denounced this crime.
This is the first time Israeli warplanes directly targeted civilian home knowing people were inside.
The Center is especially concerned because the Israeli forces completely disregarded civilian lives.
This act constitutes a grave breach of international humanitarian law, which necessitates immediate international intervention.
As such, Al Mezan calls upon the international community, particularly the High Contracting Parties to the 4th Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civil Persons in Time of War, to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities and to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
