19 Palestinians have been killed, 76 injured and 35 kidnapped in the latest series of internal fighting in north Gaza, Gaza City and Khan Younis.
This escalation was reported following the bombing of Executive Force's car in Jabalia town at app.
7:45pm on 25 January 2006.
According to field investigations, armed clashes broke out between Fatah and Hamas with the participation of the Executive Force, National Security and Presidential guards.
Clashes were permeated with abduction operations, bombings and sieges of houses.
Further, gunmen placed roadblocks in Jabalia, Gaza City and Khan Younis, ambulances were denied access to hospitals and were even targeted by gunmen.
Attempts to separate fighters by demonstrators were unsuccessful and resulted in killings.
Al Mezan expresses deep concerns and sorrow over the loss of lives.
It condemns the concurrent violations of human rights, especially the rights of freedom of movement and freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, the attacks on private property and the spread of acts of revenge that threatened the safety of citizens.
As Al Mezan strongly condemns the violence and killings in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
It holds the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and its institutions responsible for the recent incidents and for the failure to ensure protection and safety of its citizens.
The Centre also hold the lashing factions, Fatah and Hamas, responsible for the devastating violations that resulted from their clashes.
Al Mezan calls on the PNA to immediately enforce the law and initiate an effective investigation into all the incidents that have targeted people's lives, and to bring the perpetrators to justice without delay.
This, in the Centre's view, constitutes the threshold towards deterrence of acts of violation and escalation; which puts at risk the very stability and peace of the Palestinian society.
