The demonstration, part of the ‘Capital intifada’, was held in protest of the latest U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Protesters set tires on fire and threw stones at Israeli forces, and Israeli soldiers opened fire and launched tear-gas canisters at protesters.
