At approximately 4:00 pm on Thursday, 19 January 2017, police arrested seven young men in Rafah. A group of young men gathered near Al Awda square in the middle of Rafah city to participate in a protest that was organized by some activists on Facebook about the electricity crisis in Rafah.

At approximately 7:00 on the same day, the police released them after mediation from the national and Islamic groups.
