At approximately 4:30 pm on Friday, 20 January 2017, the Palestinian police dispersed a protest organized by a group of people against the electricity crisis in the Gaza Strip.
According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, a number of persons gathered near Abu Sharar crossroads in Al Falouja area in Jabaliya, in North Gaza district. They were holding banners calling the Electricity Distribution Company to increase the number of hours of electricity per day.
The police arrived the place and dispersed protesters by force and arrested 15 persons. Adding to that, the force raided a number of neighboring houses where protesters escaped to.
Al Mezan identified the names of some of the detainees as follows:
The police released them on the same day, but Salem Abu Salem was released on the next day.
