At approximately 11:00 am on Thursday 19 January 2012, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) at Erez crossing arrested Bassam Sha’ban Fouad Rehan, 24, while he was on his way to Al Mezan Hospital in Hebron.
According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, Rehan is from Jabaliya, in North Gaza district, and was injured three times during the second Intifada.
He underwent several surgeries, during which parts of his intestine were replaced with a plastic prosthetic.
He had received a medical referral to Al Mezan Hospital as he suffers from nerve failure in his left leg.
Israeli intelligence informed the Health Coordination Office in Gaza that it wanted to interview Rehan at Erez crossing.
When Rehan went to Erez at the appointed time for the interview with Israeli intelligence, in order to be allowed to travel for his medical treatment, he was arrested.
At around midday the IOF informed Rehan’s father that he had been detained at Ashkelon prison.
