The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) condemns the delay of the international Security Council (SC) members to take a decision to impose a no-fly zone over Libya, despite the unlimited support to take this crucial decision to end the bloodshed in Libya.
This delay has encouraged the Gaddafi militia to commit more war crimes and crimes against humanity in Libya.
Gaddafi’s forces continued their aerial attacks on rebellious armed sites and civilian inhabited areas, and they continued to fire random artillery shells.
As a result, the estimated death toll rose from 6,000 to 10,000 persons in one week.
The AOHR views this delay as a failure of the international community to uphold its obligations towards the Libyan people in general and in particular uninvolved civilians, notably after the Arab League decision to call on the SC to impose a no-fly zone.
The AOHR asserts that the failure of the SC to impose a no-fly zone will complicate the current humanitarian situation, particularly in light of the SC’s first decision to prevent Gaddafi, his family, and supporters from travel and to refer them to the International Criminal Court.
