The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) followed with great concern the excessive use of force including live ammunition against unarmed protestors and peaceful assemblies in several cities in Yemen.
Yesterday evening live bullets were used against protestors in the Taghyeer (Change) Square in the capital of Sanaa, the city of Hadeeda, and today in the city of Taez.
According to AOHR field sources, the security forces and militia supporting the regime used live bullets, untraditional tear bombs, batons, and white arms against protestors.
As a result, no less than 20 protestors were killed and about 400 persons were injured.
More than 30 persons were injured by live bullets.
The majority of the injured persons were suffocated by inhaling the tear gas.
Some injured persons sustained burns in different parts of their bodies.
The AOHR condemns these criminal attacks.
It reiterates its call on the UN to promptly intervene to end these grave violations and to take swift measures to end these attacks.
The AOHR reiterates its call on the Yemeni authorities to immediately stop committing these crimes which are not subject to prescription and without accountability.
It also urges the Yemeni authorities to immediately respond to the protestors' legal demands for political and economic reform and to ensure the protection of human rights.
