The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) condemns with the strongest terms the gross crimes committed by the security forces and their militia in Yemen against during peaceful protests that took place in various cities in Yemen.
These violations include the serious attacks committed by militias loyal to Yemeni president against peaceful protestors that took place in Sanaa and Taizz.
As a result of these attacks dozens of people were killed and injured.
Moreover, the security forces committed a massacre in Aden and the southern governorates, particularly in Al Mansoura city, in which dozens of people were killed and injured.
No reliable figures about the casualties in these incidents are available yet.
The AOHR asserts that the authorities’ attempts to workaround the public demands will only lead to further violations and crimes, which will augment public rage and complicate the situation.
The authorities in Yemen must stop using techniques that have failed in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya.
They must be aware that such crimes are not subject to any statute of limitation and that those responsible for them will be brought to justice.
The AOHR calls on Yemeni president and authorities to seriously consider ways to meet the legitimate public demands in order to preserve bloodshed in Yemen.
At the same time, AOHR stresses the need to bring to an immediate end the use of violence and conducting an independent investigation into the crimes to secure the punishment of those prove responsible for them and prevent impunity.
