9pm on 28 January 2010, a kerosene stove exploded while an elderly woman was using it at her home in An-Nazla area in Jabalia town in the north Gaza District.
A relative of the elderly woman’s filled, by mistake, the stove with benzene instead of kerosene.
As a result the burner exploded and killed Zainab Mohammed Abu Warda, 70, and injured her son Khalid Ahmed Abu Warda, 37, and his daughter Doha, 5.
Many families in Gaza have been forced to use the kerosene burner stoves for cooking as Israel imposes a siege on the Gaza Strip and continues to reduce cooking gas supplies to Gaza Strip.
