Legal Aspects of Israel's Disengagement Plan under International Humanitarian Law

This briefing note reviews the legal aspects of the Revised Disengagement Plan issued by the Government of Israel GoI in June 2004 pertaining to the planned withdrawal of Israeli settlers and military units from selected areas of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
It offers an analysis of the key legal implications of the proposed withdrawal under international humanitarian law IHL and of its consequences on donors’ policies and objectives in the region.
