On Tuesday, 12 May 2015, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights launched a specialized training course entitled, “Women in Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law,” at Taqween Society for Development in Ezbet Abed Rabbo in Jabaliya.

Hussein Hammad, Al Mezan’s field worker in the North Gaza district, opened the course by welcoming the participants and thanking the Society for their cooperation in holding the training. He stressed the importance of the training and hoped that the participants would gain important knowledge and make use of it to strengthen their protection.

The course consists of 15 training hours to be delivered over three days. The participants are to be introduced to the principles of human rights and international humanitarian law (IHL); the protection mechanisms for women and children in armed conflict; and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

This training course is part of Al Mezan’s core program and aims to enhance the protection and respect of human rights and the principles of IHL regarding women in the occupied Palestinian territory.
