On Tuesday, 26 August 2003, Israeli helicopters fired missiles on a car southwest of the refugee camp of Jabalia.
One old Palestinian man was killed and twenty others were wounded.
Based on Israeli sources, the target was a Hamas activist, Khalid Mahmud Masoud, who escaped the attack.
This attack follows the assassination of Khalid’s brother, Titu Masoud, on June 11, 2003, at which occasion nine other persons were killed.
According to the investigation carried out by Al Mezan Center, the three persons in the targeted vehicle managed to escape.
Two of them were wounded.
75-year-old bystander, Younis Al Hamalawi from Jabalia, died in the attack.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns this crime, which is part of Israel’s aggression strategy against Palestinian civilians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
The Center is gravely concerned by Israel’s Air Forces targeting of civilians, in that such attacks constitute war crimes and grave breaches of international humanitarian law.
Accordingly, the Center calls upon the international community, particularly the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention, to intervene and provide effective protection to Palestinian civilians and their property in the OPT.
