On Thursday 29 March 2012, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights opened a workshop titled “Juvenile Justice under International Conventions and National Laws,” held at Kahn Younis Girls Preparatory School.
About 25 students participated in the workshop.
Jamalat Kullab, the school’s director, attended the workshop and thanked Al Mezan for its efforts to foster a culture of human rights.
This workshop constitutes one component of the “Enhancing Legal Aid for Victims of Human Rights Violations in the Gaza Strip” project, implemented by Al Mezan with support from the United Nations Development Program - Program of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP, Rule of Law Program).
Yihya Muhareb, a project lawyer, opened the workshop by welcoming the participants.
He expressed his hope that the workshop would enhance the participants’ knowledge of children’s rights under Palestinian and international law.
The participants were introduced to Palestinian Children’s Rights Law No.
7 of 2004; Palestinian Labor Law No.
7 of 2000; Juvenile Criminal Law No.
2 of 1937; and the Palestinian Basic Law as amended in 2005.
The workshop lasted for about an hour and a half.
