On Wednesday 28 March 2012, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights opened a workshop titled “Juvenile Justice under International Conventions and National Laws,” held at the At-Tamyeez Educational Association in Beit Hanoun.
About 30 persons—housewives and university graduates—participated in the workshop.
Salwa Abu Njeila, manager of the association, attended the workshop and thanked Al Mezan for its efforts to foster a culture of human rights in Gaza.
She added that she hoped Al Mezan would conduct more such workshops on juvenile justice issues.
This workshop constitutes one component of the “Enhancing Legal Aid for Victims of Human Rights Violations in the Gaza Strip” project, implemented by Al Mezan with support from the United Nations Development Program - Program of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP, Rule of Law Program).
Rana Abu Ramadan, a project lawyer, opened the workshop by welcoming the participants.
She described Al Mezan’s work and its activities aimed at promoting human rights culture, and expressed her hope that the workshop would meet the participants’ expectations and contribute to the development of their knowledge of juvenile justice issues.
She then provided the participants with an introduction to various topics related to juvenile justice, the situation of children in conflict with the law, and their protection under both Palestinian national and international law.
