Short Link:
At approximately 11:15 pm on Friday 13 January 2012, unknown persons attacked Mahmoud AbuRahma, International Relations Director at Al Mezan with sharp edges.
He sustained wounds from multiple stabs in various parts of his body.
This was the second assault on Mr.
AbuRahma.
On 3 January 2012, masked men assaulted him with their hands in the building where he lives, but he was not injured.
Mr.
AbuRahma has received many threats on his mobile and email; including messages threatening his safety and life.
According to the messages, the threats are motivated by an opinion article he had published under the title “The Gap between Resistance and Governance”.
Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights has submitted complaints with all the relevant authorities in the Gaza Strip, informing them of the details of the attack on AbuRahma and urging them to take actions.
Al Mezan strongly condemns this assault and views it as a direct attack on its member’s life and personal security.
Such attacks on human rights activists or other writers on opinion grounds represent grave violations of human rights as well as Palestinian law.
Al Mezan therefore calls on Gaza government to ensure the security of Mr.
AbuRahma and initiate an investigation into this assault on him to reveal the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
