Al Mezan, ICRC, and the House of Wisdom Open Training Course on 'Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law… Basic Concepts and Mechanism of Protection'

On Tuesday 3 May 2011, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the House of Wisdom in Gaza opened a training course entitled 'Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law; Basic Concepts and Mechanism of Protection', held at the Roots Restaurant in Gaza city.
Thirty seven persons are attending the course.
Mrs.
Shirin Shobaki, Coordinator of the Training and Mass Communication Unit at Al Mezan, opened the course and thanked the ICRC and the House of Wisdom for their cooperation with Al Mezan and asserted its importance in the Gaza Strip.
She said that the course aimed to raise awareness of and promote human rights among youths, who form an important part of Palestinian society.
The course consists of 18 hours to be delivered over three days.
The course introduces participants to the historical and legal framework of international human rights law (IHRL) and international humanitarian law (IHL); the content of the basic principles of IHL, the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural rights, tolerance, democracy, the rule of law, and the mechanisms of protection of human rights.
In April, the ICRC delivered two training courses on IHRL and mechanisms of protection.
This course is a complementary course by Al Mezan.
