Al Mezan completes preparations for electoral monitoring on Election Day

On January 23rd, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights completed its final preparations to monitor the electoral process which will be take place on 25th January 25th.
Al Mezan recruited and trained 388 observers on the Electoral Law and on regulations for monitoring the voting process, vote counting and announcement of results.
The observers were distributed over the five districts of the Gaza Strip, and signed a written pledge to remain neutral and objective, and respect the code of conduct set out by the CEC.
Further, a fieldwork plan was laid out to coordinate their movement.
Al Mezan decided to opt for the same monitoring system it has used previously, where it assigned one constant observer to polling booth (1) of each polling station, while other observers visited the remaining polling booths of the same polling stations during the day.
The number of polling stations in Gaza districts was 254 stations, in addition to 6 polling stations that had been assigned for members of the policing and security apparatuses, and there were 988 polling booths across all polling stations.
The number of voters who registered to vote reached 485,067, in addition to the security members who voted during the last three days which reached 36,091.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights expects that all candidates will respect legal regulations and contribute to a successful electoral process, it also calls on the CEC to halt all forms of electoral campaigns outside polling stations, in respect of law no.
9 of 2005 and to avoid any problems which could obstruct the electoral process.
