The kidnapping of the BBC reporter in Gaza, Alan Johnston, came to an end after 115 days.
Johnston was released by his abductors in Gaza at approximately 3am today, 4 July 2007.
He was kidnapped on 12 July 2007 in central Gaza City.
His kidnapping was the longest and the most complicated ever in the Gaza Strip.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights congratulates Johnston; the colleague and friend, for his safety.
The Center also commends the successful securing of his release by Hamas movement.
Al Mezan reiterates its regret Johnston had to go through such a grave violation of his rights and dignity during the long kidnapping.
This episode has been extremely damaging to the image of the Palestinian people and its just struggle for its legitimate rights on the international plane.
The Center also reiterates its strong condemnation of all the conducts that infringe freedom of the press and expression in Palestine.
Those who were involved in such conducts, including acts of kidnapping, must be brought to justice if we are to see the end of this phenomenon.
