Al Mezan Center Condemns the Lack of Security in the Gaza Strip; Demands Investigations

Internal chaos continues to weaken the feeling of security among Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The American School and State Information Service buildings were attacked.
One woman died in a clan clash in central Gaza, and three people suffer from injuries as a result of an explosion.
At approximately 11:35pm, on 9 January 2008, unknown gunmen fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the American School compound in northern Gaza City.
The incident caused partial damages, after a large explosion and fire started in the second story, where art rooms were located.
The gunmen fled the scene.
The school was the target of two previous attacks.
At approximately, 5:30pm, on 7 January 2008, an explosive device was detonated in a house in Al Shaa'f neighborhood.
This explosion in eastern Gaza City led to the injury of five people.
According to Al Mezan field investigations, at approximately 5pm, on 7 January 2008, a clan clash erupted near Salah Ad-Din Street in central Gaza Strip.
The feud, which later escalated into an armed clash, was over land ownership.
As a result of the exchange of fire, 45-year-old Najwa Aqel El-Sayyed, a mother of nine, was killed as she was hit by a bullet in the neck, and her niece, 20-year-old Najwa Mohammad Abdul-'Al, was injured by a bullet in the right arm.
Two members of the Abu Middin clan were also injured: 46-year-old Kamal Ahmad Abu Middin suffered from live bullets to his legs, and 30-year-old Zeyad Mousa Abu Middin received live bullets to his shoulder.
According to an affidavit given by Najwa's husband, the couple and their niece were traveling in their car along Salah Ad-Din Street, returning to their home in An Nuseirat Refugee Camp.
He noticed a wounded young man lying on the ground.
Suddenly, he added, he heard his niece screaming.
He stopped the car to see what was wrong and noticed that his wife was motionless.
He said he immediately took his wife and their niece to the Nuseirat Refugee Camp clinic.
Attempts to save the wife's life failed.
Earlier that day, at approximately 1am, unknown assailants raided the offices of the five-story State Information Service building .
The building is located near Haidar Abdul-Shafi Square in Gaza City.
They searched the offices entirely except the second floor.
All computers were taken, along with other equipment, including three printers, one fax, one LCD projector, and one camera.
No information is available regarding the perpetrators' motives or their identity.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights strongly condemns the increasing lack of security in the Gaza Strip that supports a total disregard for law and order.
The Center calls for open investigations on these criminal conducts and for perpetrators to be prosecuted according to the law.
