Police Detains 6 People in Rafah

At approximately 4:00 pm on Thursday, 19 January 2017, police arrested seven young men in Rafah. A group of young men  gathered near Al Awda square in the middle of Rafah city to participate in a protest that was organized by some activists on Facebook about the electricity crisis in Rafah.

Al Mezan identified the names of some of the detainees  as:

• Mahmoud Mohammed Mahmoud Hammad, 23;
• Alaa Mohammed Hamdan Hamad, 16;
• Mohammed Mahmoud Mousa Lafi, 32;
• Ma’zouz Abdelmajid Mohammed Al Qeiq, 38;
• Mohammed Fareed Mahmoud Meqdad, 39; and
• Ibrahim Abdelaziz Ahmed Abu Hmeid, 38.

At approximately 7:00 on the same day, the police released them after mediation from the national and Islamic groups.
