On Tuesday 12 March 2013, at approximately 9:45 pm, fire erupted at a house which belongs to Abu Teir family located in Abu Teir neighborhood in the town of Abbasan Al Kabira which resulted in a number of child deaths and injuries.
Medical sources at Nasser Hospital announced on Wednesday 13 March 2013 the death of two children: Qassem Netham Abu Teir, 4, and his sister Maria, 7, due to severe burns they sustained in the house fire.
Another three children sustained critical and moderate injuries.
They were identified as:
Wasseem Netham Abu Teir, 11, who sustained serious injuries;
Mohammed Abu Teir, 16, and Moa’th Abu Teir, 14, who both sustained moderate injuries.
According to Al Mezan’s investigation, the incident took place during a power cut, and the fire was caused by a gas lamp.
Ambulance and firefighter crews managed to put out the fire with the help of some the neighborhood’s residents.
Medical sources later announced the death of Wasseem increasing the death toll to three children.
