At approximately 11:00 am on Thursday 21 February 2013, Mohammed Shehda An-Namroutti, 43, and four other persons were admitted to Kamal Odwan Hospital having sustained burns.
Medical sources described the injury of An-Namroutti as critical, one of the other injured persons as moderate, and the rest of the injured as minor.
They were referred to Shifa Hospital for medical treatment.
According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, An-Namroutti covered himself in fuel and set himself on fire at the Ministry of Social Affairs (MOSA) in North Gaza district branch in protest of MOSA’s refusal to recognize him as a case qualified to receive humanitarian and financial aid from MOSA.
As a result, one room was burnt and two social workers Rania Mohammed Ash-Shanti, 21; Asmaa’ Nattat, 25; as well as Ibrahim Mohammed Ka’bar, 72; and Ibrahim An-Nemer, 21, were injured.
An-Namroutti lives in Khan Younis and rents an apartment at Al Karama towers in North Gaza district.
He is the breadwinner for his eight-person family and he is unemployed.
