At approximately 2:45 am on Thursday 17 May 2012, Mohammed Yousif Al ‘Aloul, 20, was injured when a fire broke out in his family home, located in the Ash-Shaboura neighborhood in Rafah.
According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, the fire started after Mohammed had lit a candle in his room during an electricity cut in the area.
Neighbors managed to rescue the five residents of the house, and a civil defense team arrived at the scene and put out the fire.
Mohammed was admitted to Abu Yousif An-Najjar Hospital in Rafah, then referred to ash-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City due to his critical injury.
Mohammed suffered fourth-degree burns on the left leg and second degree burns on the chest.
His house, which was badly damaged by the fire, is about 60 square meters in area and consists of two bedrooms and a living room.
