Gaza Police Severely Beat One Person Participating in a Peaceful Assembly in Al Shate' Refugee Camp

At approximately 1pm on Saturday 20th March 2011,  Gaza policemen and others who were dressed in civilian clothes severely beat Raed Ashour Abdel Hay Mas'oud, 37, while he was participating in a peaceful assembly to end the Palestinian internal split.
 The demonstration was held near the house of Ismail Haniya, the prime minister  of Gaza, in the Al Shate' refugee camp.
In his affidavit to Al Mezan, Mas'oud said that the police stopped the demonstrators while  they were near the Al Ghoul gas station, in the Al Shate' refugee camp.
Three persons dressed in civilian clothes beat him with batons and hands.
When Mas'oud's mouth bled, the men carried him to a police car.
On their way to the police station, some persons dressed in civilian clothes holding cudgels beat Mas'oud.
When they reached the police station, the police members were violent and rude in their dealing with Mas'oud and two other detained persons.
The police transferred Mas'oud to the Al Shate' park due to risks of potential Israeli attacks.
Mas'oud and others were detained in a room and were y  questioned  about the reasons behind the assembly.
At around midnight  on Sunday 20th March 2011, the police released Mas'oud.
