Al Mezan Condemns the Continued Attacks in the Middle and North of Gaza and Calls for a Serious Investigation in the Incidents

On Saturday evening of 8 November 2014, many of the Fatah movement’s leaders received short, threatening messages on their mobile phones stated under the name of the “Islamic State”.
Some of these messages contained threats to life.
In the early hours of Friday, 7 November 2014, thirteen coordinated explosions took place at the entrances of Fatah leaders’ houses in Gaza City and North Gaza.
Al Mezan condemns these attacks and calls for a serious investigation into the attacks and holding the perpetrators to account.
Within this context, Al Mezan calls for strengthening the rule of law in Gaza.
North Gaza According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, at approximately 1:30 am on Friday, 7 November 2014, unknown persons set off six explosive devices in a row in front of Fatah movement leaders’ houses and offices.
The explosives that were detonated at the entrance to houses include the homes of: Fayez Abu E’ta (Beit Lahia), Hesham Abdel Razeq (Beit Lahia), Abdel Rahman Hammad (Beit Hanoun), Jamal Obeid (in Beit Layia), Abdel Jawad Zyada (Beit Lahia) and in front of the office of Zakarya Al Agha (Jabalia).
These explosions did not result in any injuries although they caused damage in the targeted areas to houses and cars.
Gaza City At approximately 1:40 am on Friday, 7 November 2014, unknown persons in Gaza detonated an explosive device at the entrance to the houses of: Mohammed Jawdat An-Nahhal (Tal Al Hawa), Faysal Abu Shahla (Al Rimal), Abdallah Abu Samhadana (Al Sheikh Ejleen), Abdallah Al Efranji (Al Rimal), Zeyad Matar (Tal Al Hawa), Shareef Abu Watfa (An-Nasser), in addition to another explosion near platform in Al Kateeba square in the west of Gaza City, that was being prepared for the commemoration of the death of President Yasser Arafat next week.
The platform partially damaged.
Palestinian police arrived shortly afterward at the targeted houses and opened investigations into the incidents.
According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, the improvised explosive devices were left along with printed messages that contained threats not to leave the house until 15 November 2014.
The messages carried the same name, “Islamic State”.
The coordinated attackscome at the time that Fatah prepares to commemorate the death of the former president, Yasser Arafat, on 11 November 2014.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights considers these incidents to be very serious and expresses its grave condemnation of the attacks.
Al Mezan calls for investigations to be opened into all of the attacks and for perpetrators to be held accountable.
Al Mezan repeats its previous calls for the population of Palestine to reconcile and rebuild on the basis of democracy and unity.
