Short Link:
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continued its aggression against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
On 29 May 2008, the IOF entered into Al Farata area in eastern Beit Hanoun.
It arrested about 70 Palestinians, including 26-year-old photojournalist, Ashraf Al Kafarnah, before it withdrew from the area.
According to Al Mezan field investigations, at approximately 3am, on 29 May 2008, about thirteen IOF military vehicles, led by two military bulldozers, entered into Al Farata area.
The IOF began to bulldoze the agricultural land adjacent to the eastern border.
It also launched a raid and search campaign in Palestinian houses.
At approximately 3:30am, the IOF announced over loudspeakers for all male residents aged 16- 50 to gather in Al Hammalin Mosque.
The IOF transferred the men in military vehicles to an unknown destination within Israel.
It is noteworthy that photojournalist Al Kafarna works for Rammatan News Agency in the Gaza Strip.
Ashraf along with some family members, including his father, Mamdouh, his brother, Hossam, and some cousins, were also arrested.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns the incursions and killings committed by the IOF, and in particular, arbitrary arrests.
The IOF gathers dozens of Palestinians, including many children, and subjects them to insult and humiliation, especially by forcing everyone to take off all their clothes and put on loose clothing.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights calls for the immediate release of all detainees, including Al Kafarneh.
Al Mezan calls on the international community to end its silence and to act immediately to lift the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip that caused an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
Al Mezan demands the international community to provide protection to the civilian population in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) in order to pave the way for an end to Israel's occupation.
