Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis reported the death Alaa Hani Hamada Al-Abbasi, 14, at approximately 12:15pm on Friday, 31 Jan. 2020. The child, who resides in Khan Younis refugee camp, died as a result of severe trauma to the head sustained on 11 Oct. 2019 during the Great March of Return protests to the east of Khuza'a, east of Khan Yunis. His head injury was caused by a direct hit with a teargas canister as he protested at a distance of about 250 meters from the separation fence. At the time, Alaa transferred to the Gaza European Hospital where he underwent surgery to stop the internal bleeding before being admitted to the intensive care unit where he entered into a coma.
