At around 15:30 on Friday, 8 November 2019, Israeli forces stationed along the separation fence to the east of Al-Bureij opened fire and launched tear gas canisters at hundreds of protesters in east of Al-Bureij partaking in the Great March Return demonstrations. As a result, 12 individuals, including 5 children, were injured—of whom, nine sustained wounds from live fire and shrapnel, and three were injured by rubber-coated steel bullets. The injured were immediately rushed to Al-Aqsa Hospital in Dier Al-Balah. Dozens of people were treated in the field for tear gas inhalation and minor wounds from rubber bullets. Israeli shooting continued till 18:00 on the same day.
