68 Palestinian Protesters, 19 of them Children, Injured in Israeli Forces’ Shooting in North Gaza

At 4pm on Friday, 19 October 2018, Israeli forces used live ammunition and tear gas canisters on hundreds of Palestinians joining the Great Return March demonstration in east Abu Safia area in east Jabalia refugee camp in North Gaza district. 68 protesters, including 19 children, were injured in Israeli forces’ shooting. Doctors at the Indonesia and Al-Awda hospitals stated casualties ranged in severity from moderate to critical. 56 of the injured were wounded by live fire in different parts of their bodies. Nine were directly hit by tear gas canisters while two suffered from major breathing difficulties due to Israeli forces’ heavy use of tear gas. One protester suffered from wounds as he fell while escaping Israeli forces’ fire. Other protesters who suffered from breathing difficulties received the necessary treatment by field-based medical teams. The Israeli forces continued shooting until the evening of the same day.
