37 Protesters Injured in Israeli Shooting

At 4pm on 10 September 2018, Israeli naval forces opened fire at protesters joining the naval march of the Great Return March demonstrations. The protesters were on boats off the coast of Al Waha area near the northern fence in north Beit Lahia city in North Gaza district. Also, Israeli ground forces located near the fence in northwest Beit Lahia opened fire at demonstrators who joined the Great Return March demonstration there.

Al Mezan’s documentation shows that at around 4pm on the same day, about 50 boats started sailing from Gaza seaport and headed towards occupied territorial waters in west Beit Lahia city in North Gaza district. Israeli warships intercepted and opened fire at the boats, causing damage to one boat.

At 4pm in the meantime, protesters joined the demonstration near the northern fence. Israeli forces based in monitoring sites opened fire at these protesters, injuring 37—16 of them by live fire and 17 were hit directly by tear gas canisters. Three protesters also suffering from major breathing difficulties due to Israeli forces’ heavy use of tear gas, and one more suffered from burns. Doctors at the Indonesia and Al-Awda hospitals said the casualties ranged in severity from moderate to serious.
