48 Palestinians, 17 of Them Children, Injured in Israeli Shooting at Demonstrators in North Gaza

At 4pm on Friday, 12 October 2018, Israeli forces fired live ammunition and tear gas canisters on Palestinians joining the Great Return March demonstration in east Abu Safia area in east Jabalia refugee camp in North Gaza district. 48 protesters were injured, including 17 children. Doctors at the Indonesia and Al-Awda hospitals stated the casualties ranged in severity from moderate to serious. 36 of those injured suffered wounds caused by live fire, and eight were directly hit by tear gas canisters. Three others suffered from major breathing difficulties due to Israeli forces’ heavy use of tear gas. One protester suffered from bone-breaking while escaping away. Other protesters who suffered from inhaling tear gas received the necessary treatment by field-based medical teams. The Israeli forces’ shooting continued until the evening of the same day.
