At 5pm on Wednesday, 26 September 2018, Israeli forces located in monitoring sites opened fire and launched tear gas canisters at hundreds of Palestinians who joined the Great Return March demonstration near Erez crossing in northern Beit Hanoun city in North Gaza district. 22 protesters, including 11 children, were injured—three of them three by live fire and 14 were hit directly by tear gas canisters. Five protesters suffered from major breathing difficulties due to Israeli forces’ heavy use of tear gas. Other protesters affected by the tear gas received the necessary treatment by field-based medical teams. Doctors at the Indonesia and Al Awda hospitals stated the casualties ranged in severity from moderate to serious. The Israeli shooting continued until the evening of the same day.
