Israeli Forces Open Fire at Demonstrators in North Gaza, Injuring 11 and Five Children

At 4pm on Friday, 22 June 2018, Israeli forces based in monitoring sites to the east of the security fence in east Abu Safia area in east Jabalia refugee camp in North Gaza district opened fire at Palestinians joining the Great March Return demonstration in the area. 16 demonstrators were injured, five of them children. Doctors at the Indonesia and Awda Hospitals stated the casualties ranged from moderate to serious. 12 of these casualties sustained wounds by live fire shot into different parts of their bodies, and four were wounded by tear-gas canisters. Field-based medical teams provided the necessary medical treatment to other demonstrators who suffered from breathing difficulties due to inhaling used tear gas. Israeli shooting continued until the evening of the same day.
