At 3:00pm on Thursday, 22 February 2018, Israeli forces located on the southeastern borders of Burij refugee camp opened fire and tear-gassed tens of protesters joining a demonstration in the east of Burij. The demonstration, part of the ‘Capital intifada’, was held in protest of the latest U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Protesters set tires on fire and threw stones at Israeli forces, and Israeli soldiers opened fire and launched tear-gas canisters at protesters. One protester received two bullets in his lower parts and was moderately injured, as described by doctors at Shuhada Al Aqsa Hospital. Shooting continued until 6:30pm on the same day.
