At 2:00pm on Friday, 23 February 2018, Israeli forces located on the northern borders of Jabalia refugee camp, of Beit Hanoun city, and of Beit Lahia city, in North Gaza governorate opened fire and tear-gassed protesters joining popular demonstrations. Called for by various Palestinian factions, the demonstrations were held in protest of the latest U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Israeli soldiers opened fire and launched tear-gas canisters at protesters, causing the injury of nine protesters, including four children. Seven of them sustained wounds in various parts of their bodies as caused by live ammunition while the two others had rubber bullets injuring them in the face. These injuries ranged from moderate to serious, as described by doctors at the Indonesia Hospital and Beit Hanoun Hospital. Other protesters affected by tear-gas were treated in the field. Confrontations continued until the evening of the same day.
