At 2p.m. on Friday, 16 February 2018, Israeli forces based in monitoring sites opened fire and heavily used tear-gas against hundreds of adults and children joining demonstrations near the eastern borders of Jabalia refugee camp and near the northern borders both of Beit Hanoun and of Beit Lahia. Various Palestinian factions had called for such demonstrations to show support for Jerusalem and to protest the latest U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. 12 Palestinian protesters, including four children, were injured. These casualties were taken to the Indonesia and Beit Hanoun hospitals, where their wounds were diagnosed to range from moderate to serious. Seven of them sustained injuries in different parts of their bodies while the other five were harmed by tear-gas bombs fired by Israeli soldiers. Medical teams provided the necessary care to others in the field who were affected by tear gas. Israeli shooting continued until the evening of the same day.
