Israeli Forces Open Fire at Palestinian Demonstrators in Northern Gaza City; 12 Persons Injured

At 2:00p.m. on Friday, 9 February 2018, Israeli forces opened fire and launched tear gas canisters at tens of young Palestinian men and children who were  protesting to the east of Al Shuhada cemetery in eastern Jabalia and near the northern borders of Beit Lahia.  Palestinian factions called for demonstrations to protest the latest US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. 12 persons, including eight children, were injured in clashes. Medical staff in the Indonesian and Beit Hanoun Hospitals reported that their injuries ranged from moderate to serious. According to Al Mezan’s monitoring, nine persons sustained gunshots in different parts of their bodies and three sustained injuries by the gas canisters. Clashes continued until evening hours on the same day.
