Israeli Forces Open Fire at Protesters in Eastern Gaza City

At 13:00 on Friday, 29 December 2017, Israeli forces located around the eastern borders, near Nahal Oz military site, opened fire at youths joining a demonstration in Shujayya neighborhood in eastern Gaza city. The demonstration, largely by young adults and children, was organized to protest the late U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Rubber bullets, live ammunition and tear-gas grenades were used and caused injuries to 23 people, including five children. 14 were injured by live ammunition, one by rubber bullets, six by tear-gas grenades, and two suffered from inhaling the tear-gas. These injuries ranged from light to moderate and serious, as described by doctors at Al Shifa Hospital. Confrontations continued until 18:00 of the same day.
