At 12:30p.m. on Tuesday, 2 January 2018, Israeli forces located around the eastern borders with Khan Younis opened fire and tear-gassed a number of Palestinians as they assembled near Abu Reeda gate in Khuzaa town in eastern Khan Younis. The assembly was part of the general demonstrations held in protest of the recent U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Confrontations continued for three hours, resulting in the injury of Mohammed Jamal Al Najjar, 23, in the left leg. He was taken to the European Gaza Hospital, where his injury was described as moderate.
