At approximately 7:30 pm on Sunday, 17 July 2016, Anfal Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim, two years and a half, sustained a bullet wound in her head while she was playing with her sister Asal and her cousin Farah, near her house in Al Shaboura neighborhood in Rafah. Her father carried her to Al Awda medical center, where she provided with first aid. Medical staff there didn’t recognize that she was injured by a bullet. Her father took her back home thinking that her injury was minor and resulted from throwing stones. The child vomited more than one time, so her father and uncle took her to Abu Youssif Al Najjar Hospital in Rafah. Medical staff there also didn’t figure out the reason of vomiting. The child was transferred to the Gaza European Hospital in Khan Younis. At approximately 9:00 am on Monday, 18 July 2016, medical staff diagnosed her injury of a bullet which entered her head and settled in her lower jaw. She was entered the intensive care unit because of her critical health condition. Then she was transferred to Saint Joseph Hospital in Jerusalem. The police opened an investigation into the incident.
